1. You can keep fleas off of your dog by using citrus fruits, such as lemons. Take six lemons, cut them in half, and boil them in a quart of water. Then allow the lemons to sit in the water overnight in order for the oils to mix well with the water. The liquid can then be put into a spray bottle and sprayed on your dog. Avoid spraying their eyes as it may sting. You should reapply when the smell of citrus begins to fade.

2. Brewer’s yeast is another great way to repel fleas. Just put the yeast in your dog’s food.

3. If you find that your dog has fleas, you should drown them with water. You can either use a flea comb in order to get the fleas out of your dog’s fur and then submerge the comb in a bowl of water or put your dog in the bathtub.

4. Cleaning your home frequently will help to keep fleas away. Fleas lay eggs, the eggs then turn into larva, and then into fleas. Eggs can fall off and land anywhere in your home and still turn into a flea, so it is best to frequently clean your home in order to remove any flea eggs that may be laying around.

5. Beneficial nematodes are roundworms that seek out and eat fleas and their larva. You can put the roundworms in the outdoor areas where your dog hangs out and they will get rid of any fleas you may have within 48 hours.

6. Rose geranium is a great way to repel ticks. You can easily make a tick collar of your own by simply applying a few drops of rose geranium essential oil to the collar that your pet already wears.

7. In order to keep ticks off your dog, you can make a pair of pants for them out of long socks. If you have a smaller dog, this can easily be done using one sock. You will want to cut the foot part of the sock off, then in the middle of the elastic of the top of the sock, you will cut down about 4 – 6 inches depending on the length of your dogs legs. You will then sew the two sides into individual legs of the pants. Determine what will be the back of the pants and cut a slit for your dogs tail. This is not easily done for a large dog.
